Fishing Boat Motors - RACINE, Wis.– Continuing to offer its customers a full line of power management options, Minn Kota has added additional products and features to its charger and accessories product line.
“Our goal is to provide anglers with a complete trolling system that matches their power management needs to their Minn Kota trolling motor,” Minn Kota Brand Manager of New Product Development and Accessories Jeff Davison said. “The reputation we have built for quality and innovation in trolling motors now extends to our power management products.”
For 2004, Minn Kota is introducing a new four-bank on-board charger, a new automatic temperature compensation feature on all its on-board battery chargers, a portable marine charger, and a remote battery monitor (available in either a two- or three-bank model).
Four-Bank Charger
The addition of the new MK 440 four-bank on-board battery charger now gives Minn Kota a full range of on-board charger products with outputs from one to four banks. The MK 440 has 10 amps output per bank for 40 amps of total output.
Like all Minn Kota on-board chargers, the MK 440 features fully automatic three-stage charging…bulk, absorption and maintenance. “By properly and automatically controlling current and voltage during the three stages of charging, our on-board chargers not only recharge faster but they also prevent overcharging,” Davison said. “Overcharging can damage and shorten battery life, so multi-stage charging is essential in extending the life of a battery.”
The manufacturers suggested retail price for the MK 440 is $299.99.
Automatic Temperature Compensation Feature
A new feature that has been added to Minn Kota on-board chargers is Automatic Temperature Compensation. “We know that lead-acid batteries reach their peak charge level when they are pushed to what is called their gassing threshold, but gassing thresholds can change with temperature,” said Davison. “We added the Automatic Temperature Compensation feature to our on-board chargers so that output voltage is adjusted to assure the battery reaches its gassing threshold and achieves a full charge. This feature also protects batteries from boiling due to overcharging at high temperatures.”

Portable Charger
Minn Kota’s new MK 110P Portable Marine Charger has a unique, ergonomic design to allow for easy and convenient use. Key features include:
Fully automatic three-stage charging (bulk, absorption, maintenance)

LED display that indicates power on, charging, full charge and check connection
Short circuit and reverse polarity protection to prevent charger from operating if improperly connected to the battery
FCC compliant and UL listed to marine standard 1236

Remote Battery Monitors
New to Minn Kota’s accessory product line are Remote Battery Monitors that can be flush-mounted on a deck or dash for convenient monitoring of battery condition. Available in two- or three-bank models, Minn Kota battery monitors give instant LED readouts of remaining charge of the trolling motor battery at 100, 75, 50 or 25 percent. There is also an indicator light that illuminates when the battery is being charged.
