Daiwa Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan Fishing Reels

Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Daiwa
Daiwa Model: Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan
Review Category: Fishing Reels

Purchase: Since I love throwing lighter rigs as 1/16oz to 3/16 for drop shot & split shot, I always wanted a reel that can cast these lighter rigs effortlessly. I could use a spinning gear, but I'm more of a baitcasting lover. I paid $335 with shipping for this reel at SpecialtyTackle.com.

Things I like about the Daiwa Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan: What a light reel! This reel only weighs 5.7oz and casting distance is incredible! I put 6lb mono and throw 1/16oz jig head just like I throw other heavier lures. MagForce V works perfectly on this reel, there is no backlash whatsoever when adjusting it correctly. Even facing the wind, light rigs still shoot out beautifully. And, palming was very comfortable as well. Retrieving is very silky, and feels I'm connected to the lure every turn of the handle. Very sensitive, super casting, and perfect for finesse anglers' reel.

What I don't like about the Daiwa Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan: When I first opened the box, I noticed the 'orange' was not a very manly color. Spool is very shallow, I couldn't put more than 8lb mono on the reel. Unlike other high priced baitcasting reels, the drag was not easy to set because there's no clicking sound when adjusting. Retrieving is silkier than TD-Z models, but compared to Shimano high end models, Pixy's retrieving is not that silky.

Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan quality: Comparing to Daiwa TD-Z models, specially TDZ-105H which is well known for small lures, Liberto Pixy Orage outperforms for lighter rigs-1/16oz to 3/16oz. Also, the paint job on the frame is very durable so it doesn't get scratched as easy as TD-Z models. The body is 'magnesium' construction so it's not for brakish or saltwater.

Liberto Pixy Orange-Japan summary: Liberto Pixy Orage is the dream reel for finesse anglers. For $335, you do not get multi-purpose usages from this reel, but if you seek to catch fish at heavy pressured water where you need lighter lines and lure presentations, this reel will give you the most accurate cast with ease. The lightest, and smallest baitcasting reel in the market, and this reel will do the fine job when you prefer on specific presentations such as drop shot & split shot. Price might be high for some anglers, but someone who's into finesse angling like me will appreciate the performace of Daiwa Liberto Pixy Orage very well.
