Purchase: Fishing Reels Bought this unit from Cabelas catalog almost 10 years ago. I wanted a very small front drag spinning reel for fishing trout on 2 to 4 lb mono. I guess I paid about 100 dollars Canadian.
Things I like about the Abu Garcia Ultra Lite Pro Fishing Reels: Very pretty reel. Extra spool but plastic and the drag system is not the same. Very light. Great drag. Very smooth reel. Good service from Abu Garcia (see below)
What I don't like about the Abu Garcia Ultra Lite Pro: Spool diameter is way too small. Sure the reel is light but the tiny spool does not allow long casts. Nobody manufactures very light spinning reels yet that have large diameter spools for long casts. Has no "anit-reverse". But don't forget this is a 10 year old reel.
Fishing Reels Ultra Lite Pro quality: The tiny reel spins so fast that I guess the lubrification was not adequate. It started to seize up especially when battling a fish. For the price, I would have prefered the reel to be a bit tighter feeling. No anti-reverse, and the bit of play in the line spool made the reel feel a bit sloppy. I sent the reel back to the company and they lubricated it....good service from Abu Garcia. However, the anti-reverse does not work when ice fishing. Grease gets too thick.
Ultra Lite Pro summary: I will not let a product from 10 years ago affect my choice for another reel. I would like to see more review sites.
