CVA Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: CVA CVA Model: Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder I bought this muzzle loader from On Target sports in Kalamazoo MI for about $260.
Things I like about the CVA Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader Black Powder: I like the overall design and mechanism for how the prime chamber opens/shuts. For the money, it shoots well, is easy to clean.
What I don't like about the CVA Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader: I have had mine for about 6 years now and have had problems with the 209 primer not firing. When I pull the trigger, the hammer flies, but nothing. (I unscrewed my breech plug a couple of turns so the primer fits tighter when the action is closed and this seemed to work for me). The nickel finish barrel is begining to tarnish w/ spots as well and I keep my guns well oiled and clean. Additionally, the trigger is a bit stiff as well (for the money, not bad).
Black Powder Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader quality: Overall quality, I would rate as Fair.
Kodiak .50 cal muzzleloader summary: The bottom line is a decent basic muzzleloader for the money, this is an ok gun. It is accurate, easy to load, clean and simple. The trigger is a bit stiff. I would also expect that right out of the box, the mechanics of teh gun should be sufficient to fire the primer every time and this is not the case. I've heard from others with this gun that this is a problem CVA has had. There is nothing fancy about this gun, but you don't have to worry about beating the crap out of this gun in the woods.
