Purchase: Archery Equipment I wanted to retire my whisker biscuit and get a drop-away type arrow rest. I tend to torque the bow when I shoot resulting in poor grouping with the whisker biscuit. I hoped that my torquing the bow would not be an issue with a drop-away. I bought my first one from a local archery store for 49.99. Since then, I have purchased three more from various online stores for use on my other bows.
Things I like about the Quality Archery Designs QAD Ultra-rest Hunter Fall Away Rest Archery Equipment: I liked that it was the cheapest drop-away rest with the 'full capture' feature. I do a lot of stalking and it's nice to not worry about my arrow falling off the rest. The Ultrarest is also super easy to tune. One note however, if you use back tension to release your shots then you need a bow with a solid back wall to ensure proper timing of the drop-away. I use a back tension release and could not get the ultra-rest to drop consistently with my dual cam bow that had a spongy back wall. Once I put the ultra-rest on my mathews solocam bow, timing the drop-away was a breeze.
What I don't like about the Quality Archery Designs QAD Ultra-rest Hunter Fall Away Rest: I don't like the cable clamp for permanent use. On my bow, it was rubbing the upward bus cable causing wear. The clamp is okay for the initial set up of the rest but after that I'd serve the drop-away cord onto the bus cable.
I also don't like the bar that sits above the drop away arm. Unless you're planning on hanging upside down while hunting, there's really no use for it. It is much easier to load the arrow without it anyway.
Archery Equipment QAD Ultra-rest Hunter Fall Away Rest quality: The quality is great and the lines allow for easy micro-tuning of the rest. QAD also had excellent customer service. The first one that I had purchased would not drop consistently. I just e-mailed QAD and they quickly replaced my rest no questions asked. Awesome service.
QAD Ultra-rest Hunter Fall Away Rest summary: The QAD Ultra-rest Hunter is an excellent choice for those of us who are on a budget and want a full-capture drop-away rest that is easy to tune. I can't think of any reason to pay more for a different drop-away rest when this one does everything you need it to for 50 bucks.
