Purchase: Fishing Rods I purchased the first rod because it was recommended to me. What a joke!!
Things I like about the Gallatin fly rods Onyx Premier IM-6 Fishing Rods: They are good looking and feel pretty good and cast pretty well for guys who only get to use a fly rod once or twice a year.
What I don't like about the Gallatin fly rods Onyx Premier IM-6: After I purchased the first rod, I purchased another. I don't remember the model except it did not have the extended butt like the model like the IM-6 Onyx. A buddy of mine liked the looks of them and purchased two just like the two I had bought. The first or second time out one of his broke. After several phone conversations the rod was replaced. Then one of mine broke year later. Then this past week, my second rod broke. Out of five rods we still now have a grand total of one. I will say this for the rods, they are consistant. They always break in the same place. Just about 1/2" below where the two pieces are slipped together. Putting too much stress on the rod? I don't think so. We always use 1 to 3 lb. leaders. The wear and tear on the rods is great also. We go on a fishing trip once a year to Bennett Springs in Missouri. If lucky, we may get in another long weekend.
Fishing Rods Onyx Premier IM-6 quality: The construction and quality looks fine from the beginning. after that it is all down hill!!
Onyx Premier IM-6 summary: We probably purchased these rods back in 2003 or 2004. I have figured out since then stick with brand name and you can't go wrong. These fly rods that broke had to have been made out of junk blanks. 4 out of 5 rods do not just break at the exact same place with no more than they get used. The reel seats would not stay tight. The rods in my buddy's and my estimation are nothing more than a piece of junk.
