Things I like about the Musky Mania 6" Jake Fishing Lures: This is a very productive lure for large Northern Pike. I have caught Pike over 35" with the Firetiger, Perch, Glitter Perch and Shiner color patterns. In clear water, the natural Perch color works exceptionally well. The other colors mentioned are productive in stained water, or on overcast days. This lure works best over shallow weeds with a slow, straight retrieve. The combination of wobbling, rolling action will get the attention of larger, pressured fish. Be sure to use with a Flourocarbon leader. The weight of a steel or tintanium leader will inhibit this lure's ability to mimic a baitfish struggling to swim up-right.
What I don't like about the Musky Mania 6" Jake: There really isn't room on a 6" lure for three treble hooks. Approximately one out of five casts are ruined by the tangling of the center and rear hooks. However, this is a trade-off of sorts, because the three trebles result in a very high percdentage of hook-ups.
Fishing Lures 6" Jake quality: This lure has a very durable finish that holds up well to sharp teeth. I've used numerous crankbaits that were ruined after catching 4-5 Northerns. Not so with these. I did lose the lip from one after just a few casts. I assume this was a fluke as I've had no trouble with the others.
6" Jake summary: If you are fishing for Muskies in shallow water, you would be better off with the 8" Jake. However, if Pike are what you're after, the 6" size is perfect for fish from 20" up to 40" or more. The wobbling, rolling action of this lure can't be beat. Don't be surprised when it gets wacked by a large Bass.
