Ugly Stick Fishing Rods 8' 3" Light Action Model Fishing Rods
Fishing Rods Manufacturer: Ugly Stick Fishing Rods Ugly Stick Fishing Rods Model: 8' 3" Light Action Model Review Category: Fishing Rods
Purchase: Fishing Rods I purchased four 8' 3" Ugly Stick rods to use for Great Lakes Walleye trolling and light Spring Salmon trolling. They varied in price from $39.00 to $52.00 over the 4 year period that I purchased them. I purchased 2 from Cabelas in Dundee, MI and 1 at Gander Mountain in Port Huron, MI and 1 at Gander Mountain in Lansing, MI. I purchased my first 8' 3" Ugly Stick based upon my experience using one to catch very large Walleyes and Spring Steelhead on a friend's 21 foot Lund Baron out in Saginaw Bay. They performed flawlessly.
Things I like about the Ugly Stick Fishing Rods 8' 3" Light Action Model Fishing Rods: The 8' 3" Ugly Stick Light is paired with a Diawa Sealine SC27LC trolling reel to provide the perfect combination of flex, with strength, that is necessary for big water planer board trolling when pulling jet divers and body baits, spoons, or weighted spinner rigs. The backbone strength and flexing capability of the Ugly Stick Light is more than up to the task of dealing with intensive waves often encountered on Saginaw Bay and Lake Michigan while trolling with the in-line planer boards, nicely absorbing the "shock" as the boards jump through the wave crests. Yet when it's "fish on" the rod is not too stiff and provides a ton of enjoyment for the angler as it arches - just sweet to the fight of Walleyes, Steelhead, and those perfect Spring Cohos.
What I don't like about the Ugly Stick Fishing Rods 8' 3" Light Action Model: There is nothing I don't like about the Ugly Stick light. I'm going to buy 2 more for the Spring trolling season this year.
Fishing Rods 8' 3" Light Action Model quality: The 8' 3" Ugly Stick Light is tough. I can run it on my downriggers right to the surface of the water without worrying about breaking it. This comes in handy when "inexperienced helpers" are setting the lines. The finish on the rods is helical in nature and does not show scratches like standard rod blanks. This is a plus when a person likes to maintain his/her gear in a quality manner. The reel seats are stable. The guides are strong. Mine have not given out after 4 years of very heavy use, where other rods have failed in the same time period.
8' 3" Light Action Model summary: The 8' 3" Ugly Stick Light is the perfect rod for trolling with Offshore (or similar) in-line planer boards. The forgiveness and reliability of the rod when employed to pull in-line planers with into heavy waves as well as it's finesse to detect every strike on those wonderful, smooth evenings on the Great Lakes make the 8' 3" Ugly Stick Light a simply awsome piece of equipment to own. Pair up an 8' 3" Ugly Stick Light with a Diawa Sealine SC27LC and some 10 pound test mono. You'll be very happy you did as the 30 inch Walleye or the 8 pound Steelie comes to net.
