Hornady 300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot Black Powder

Black Powder Manufacturer: Hornady
Hornady Model: 300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot
Review Category: Black Powder

Purchase: Black Powder Bought 60 of them from Wholesale Sports in Saskatoon Saskatchewan CDA. price was $ 13.99 per box of 20

Things I like about the Hornady 300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot Black Powder: First price was exceptionally good. Performance was absolutely fantastic. Had rifle sighted in 3.5 " high at 100 meters after only 5 shots from a brand new TC Omega ( scoped). With 2 by 50 gr and 1 by 30 gr pellets ( 130 total) triple 7 the gun then shot a solid 2" group at 100 meters. Was about 8 " low at 200 meters. Shot a real nice 5 by 5 whitetail from a rested position from 183 ( ranged ) meters. Bullet struck a bit below my point of aim right on the shoulder. .45 cal going in and a 1 inch hole coming out just at trailing edge of the opposite shoulder. But ran full tilt for 60 yards and was on his nose after traveling a total of 70 or so yards. Missed the lungs and smoked the heart. What a whallop when the STML struck him.. Thank you TC and Thank you Hornaday and Thank you Lord.

What I don't like about the Hornady 300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot: What is not to like . this bullet flys flat and hits like a bus and is very accurate through my TC. Recoil is manageable with pellets but brutal with Pyrodex select at same grain so I went and will stay with pellets. Apparently the triple 7 pellets burn more progressively than loose powder Whatever!!!! it is not too brutal upon 209 ignition with the 777 pellets..

Black Powder 300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot quality: Bullet consistency seems to be real good and the terminal performance was awesome , even at extended range.

300 Gr STML .45/50 Sabot summary: I do not beleive there is any air sucking creature, in North American, that could not be taken with this bullet, at reasonable ranges. I also took a doe at 100 meters, off hand.. double lung and the bullet went just a bit above where I was looking. I recovered the nice tender vittles, about 50 yards from where she was hit and the blood trail was outstanding.
