Okuma Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel Fishing Reels
Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Okuma Okuma Model: Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel Review Category: Fishing Reels
Purchase: I purchased this reel new by bidding on E bay.It was one of the least costly reels I could find and still be dependable. After reading many reviews on the reel I decided it would be a good reel for me to start off with.If I remember correctly I paid $ 40.00 for it.It retails for just over $80.00.
Things I like about the Okuma Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel: I like the large arbors ability to retrieve line quickly. I can take up the line I have out quickly to get long running fish on the spool/drag quicker. The wide spool hold plenty of backing ( 120 yards of 20# ) for those long runs. I like the smooth one way drag that allows you to retrieve with no resistance. The drag is stainless steel based, one way roller bearing. It has no cork drag washers that have to be oiled. It feels simular to the infinite anti reverse on my baitcasters. It has an aluminum frame and spool, and is designed for salt water use. With the press of a small button, the reel spool is very easy to take off and rinse after use.I like the large, flush star drag adjustment. It is easy to turn while palming the spool if needed. Extra spool can be bought at a very low cost so you can quickly change spools/fly line to match the fishing situation.
And the price is nice too.
What I don't like about the Okuma Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel: One of the many things I realy like about this reel is also the only thing I can think of that I dislike about it. The one way bearing in the reel applies drag in one direction and is super free turning in the other direction.I pull the line off the reel that I plan on using in a cast. While casting the rig the inertia of the front and back motion of a cast causes the free turning spool to turn about a half turn with each haul of the line, taking up my stripped off line. After a few casts I notice that I don't have enough line out to make a full length cast. I then have to strip line off the reel again . Not a major thing , just an inconvenience.
Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel quality: The Okuma Integrity 8/9 is a large arbor, wide spooled fly reel. It has a one way, stainless steel roller bearing and disk drag. The frame and spool are made of cast aluminum and is coated with a black anticorrosive finnish. It can be easily converted to right or left hand retrieve. The reel feels strong. It's quality is very high for it's price.
Integrity I-8/9 Large Arbor Fly Reel summary: Being new to fly fishing I started checking out available gear. It didn't take long to decide this was a rich mans sport. After sifting through a plethora of information of fly reels , I came across the Okuma Integrity. It sounded like the reel for me, a beginner saltwater fly fisher. Over the past 2 years I have yet to have any problem with the reel and it has easily handled every fish I have caught on it.I liked it so much I bought a 10/11 size Itegrity for fishing the surf. This reel is a great low cost reel for both the beginner and the novice fisherman.
