NAP Spitfire Broadhead Archery Equipment

Archery Equipment Manufacturer: NAP
NAP Model: Spitfire Broadhead
Review Category: Archery Equipment

Purchase: I purchased these broadheads from the Gander Mountain retail store in Aurora, CO. I have since purchased more from E-Bay. I believe I paid about $30.00 for a set of three.

Things I like about the NAP Spitfire Broadhead: The proof is in the pudding as they say. These particular broadheads were recommended to me by the wildlife biologist on the high profile Apache reservation where I live. Many trophy bulls are taken off this particular location annually. The biologist and his guides use these....only these. Impact is the same as field points period. After three seasons of use I don't even test them anymore. They are that precise. Yeah, but what about penetration? I was worried about that until I killed a few critters. It's a non-issue. Dead is dead. I killed a mature bull elk just last week. The 100 grain Spitfire shattered a rib on impact. The on-side lung was destroyed, aorta severed and far side lung was completely penetrated. The bull ran 50 yards and fell over dead. I timed it on my watch. 43 seconds from (57 yard)shot to last breath. I've shot bulls with a high powered rifle that ran farther than that.

What I don't like about the NAP Spitfire Broadhead: I was afraid of mechanicals initially. I heard all the stories about deflected shots, failure to open, etc. I can't vouch for other brands but I can tell you I don't even worry about these "issues" anymore. Spitfires work, everytime.

Spitfire Broadhead quality: The Spitfire model features a pinpoint, three razor sharp blades and no rubber bands. Rocks are pretty hard on the blades if you miss, buy replacements. That's no different than you'd do for a fixed blade. Point and blades appear untouched after recovery from an animal. Changing blades is easy, all tools are included in the replacement blade kit. I've used them over and over. Blades are supposed to be replaced after 3 impacts, that's good advice as they seem to break (even on a foam target) after 3-4 impacts. I have zero concern about a fresh blade breaking on an animal. Practice "blades" (non-opening) are available. I no longer mess with these. If I want to test impact I just use an old broadhead. Again the impact is so reliable and identicle to my field points I just don't test them anymore. They are one component I just don't worry about.

Spitfire Broadhead summary: Precise, durable and deadly. I was very reluctant to transition to a mechanical broadhead. These are more accurate than a fixed blade and incredibly deadly.
