Moultrie feeders DGW-100 Trail Cameras (m-s)
Trail Cameras (m-s) Manufacturer: Moultrie feeders Moultrie feeders Model: DGW-100 Review Category: Trail Cameras (m-s)
Purchase: Trail Cameras (m-s) Wall-Mart, Port Huron Mi. Unit listed for $98.73. I love bowhunting for whitetail deer ! I would love to show you guys some of the massive deer antlers I have harvested during my stays in the tree tops. I am a true believer that some of the biggest bucks are in areas that are notfrequented by mankind. One of the areas in particular is an area that has been purchased by a large petreochemical company many, many years ago. Therefore, hunting is not permitted. The woodlot consists of 50 year old red oaks that produce massive amounts of acorns (protein) every year. As I go in to work, I see awsome bucks feeding out in the crops that surround the woodlot. The Zeiss 15*45 BT* binoculars that I use from the road get me pretty close to the animals, but I know that a game camera will get me that much closer as well as identifying potential game amimals.
Things I like about the Moultrie feeders DGW-100 Trail Cameras (m-s): First of all, when I first walked by it at Wall-Mart, I saw that the original price was $98.73 and the sale price was $78.73. This was a price that I could accept, considering the fact that the unit could be found and stolen at any time! I have purchased trail monitors of equal expense that have left me with images that could not be filled.
The unit takes a 6 volt latern battery which lasts about 3 weeks depending on the amount of exposures and camers selections (video mode / 3 shot stills / night pictures). The camera that I tested was run in July / August and I think that in the colder months to come, you would have to change the batteries out a lot sooner than in the winter months. By purchasing two 256 SD memory cards, you can swap cards and new batteries out every week and a half. The TV out port and the USB out ports are two great ways to look at your pictures but, if you are swapping out SD memory cards, the computer is the way to go. This option allows you to delete the pictures that you do not want. Eg: Pictures of yourself swapping out cards and batteries. If you are out on a hunting excursion and you really want to see the pictures of the animals that you recorded, you might also want to purchase a digital camera that takes a SD memory card that lets you see the picture on its LCD display. The good part about owning this camera is the fact that the company will address and handle any problems with the camera by calling 1-800-653-3334.
What I don't like about the Moultrie feeders DGW-100: I have had a few problems with the white out effect. A few pictures have come back completly white(over exposure). The pictures in particular have been taken at 13:00 hrs with the camera facing north into a field of soybean. The camera was set on 3 shot still and no video. The camera was also set on auto flash. It seems to take better pictures in shadey areas or at sundown. Since the camera uses an incandescent flash, game animals , especially deer, take notice. They hear and see the flash going off. I try to take pictures of deer in areas that I see them feeding in. In june /July you can pretty much see them feeding in the same areas every night. Once they see and hear the game camera, they generally try to shy away from the distracting area. You might only have to move the camera over another 50 yards to try and recapture them again because of their change. Use your binoculars to see where they are entering the field. The 1.3 MP camera is great for looking at an 160 class deer, anything greater than this might send you into a tailspin when the moment finally arrives !
Trail Cameras (m-s) DGW-100 quality: Very sound unit. I actually dropped it from my drier and it fell right on the ceramic floor. I almost died ! However, the unit still works and I do not think that I will try that again.
DGW-100 summary: For the money, this unit was an excellent purchase. I do not think that I would be putting out a $300.00 game camera and not knowing if it was going to be there the next time I go out and check it. If Moultrie can make a game camera that is completly silent and operates on diodes (no flash) at the same price, I think that I would purchase many more units. These units could be placed in sensative areas that you are actually going to hunt.
