Purchase: I got this new on eBay for $178.
Things I like about the Garmin GPSMap 76: I like the large screen. I have this mounted on my boat. The larger screen is a much better solution when running in rough water. It is water proof. I don't worry about rain or splashing water. The backlight feature is great for night fishing. The options for uploading maps are terrific. Lakemaster for fishing. Topo maps for hunting/hiking/snowmobiling.
There is plenty of internal memory for maps (8 MB).
What I don't like about the Garmin GPSMap 76: The cost of additional mapping software can get expensive.
GPSMap 76 quality: Excellent design and construction. Easy one handed use. Once you get used to the button positioning and the menu options, you don't need to look at the unit to get to the function you want.
GPSMap 76 summary: This is my second unit. It is larger than the eTrex family, but since I am a big user of the uploaded map functions, I wanted the biggest hand held screen. I'm willing to sacrifice size for sceen.
