Brothersmith-knives Antique Bowie A52 AB1 Hunting Knives
Hunting Knives Manufacturer: Brothersmith-knives Brothersmith-knives Model: Antique Bowie A52 AB1 Review Category: Hunting Knives
Purchase: Hunting Knives According to Jim Bowie, he was looking for a large heavy knife that could be used for defense and for hunting. A blacksmith produced just what he wanted and within a short time Bowie had the chance to use his new knife when he was attacked in an alley by three would be murders. He successfully defended himself, killing all three and the knife became legend. Hundreds, if not thousands of men wanted a knife, "like Mr. Bowie's." I purchased this knife on the internet after a long search for the correct appearing Bowie knife. As a confederate civil war reenactor I was looking for a large Bowie knife that would have that "homemade" look to it. Though my intention was to use the knife as basically a "stage prop," the knife does come in handy for chopping firewood and kindling, carving, and cutting. It was purchased from Brothersmith-Knives.com for $15.99 and about $5.00 shipping.
Things I like about the Brothersmith-knives Antique Bowie A52 AB1 Hunting Knives: For me, the knife's true character is in the handle that is formed of worn looking wood and brass. The knife is large at 15 inches overall with a 10.5 inch blade. It is also very heavy at 1.5 to 2 pounds! I am also pleased with the shape of the blade in that it has the correct sweep of the front point while maintaining the width, so it looks as close to Bowie's original as I have found.
What I don't like about the Brothersmith-knives Antique Bowie A52 AB1: I am not as pleased with the sheath that came with the knife. It is handworked leather but is stiff. It has buttoned straps to hold the knife in place which seem to interfere with removing and replacing the knife in the sheath. The snaps also do not have the correct period look but serve well if the knife is to be used only for hunting.
Hunting Knives Antique Bowie A52 AB1 quality: This Antique Bowie is a exceptional quality and the blade holds an edge well. It is hard to believe that the price is under $20. I believe the knife is imported from Pakistan but the quality doesn't give that way.
Antique Bowie A52 AB1 summary: Bottom line is that this is a quality knife at an unbelievable price that has the look of an original. Brothersmith Knives are some of the most friendly people to deal with on the phone and have a large selection of bowie knives at great prices. Take it from Jim, this knife will come in handy when you least expect it!
