PSE PSE Venom Bows

Bows Manufacturer: PSE
PSE Model: PSE Venom
Review Category: Bows

Purchase: Bows Having recently turned 65, and looking to retire, which would give me more freedom to enjoy my longtime passion for hunting, I decided that I would like to take up bow hunting. After doing a little research, and talking with several bow hunting acquaintances I decided to take the plunge and visit a well known local archery shop, Pelkeys Archery near home. After spending about 4 hours of one on one with the in shop expert, and having tested several other makes and models of bows, I finally settled on the PSE Venom Compound Bow. This being my first experience with bow hunting, I wanted a solid dependable and comfortable bow, and to me the PSE Venom fit the bill. Speaking of the bill, the bow alone set me back $499.00, before adding all the other necessities, like sights, arrow rest, arm guard, mechanical release, arrows etc.

Things I like about the PSE PSE Venom Bows: After having test fired several different models, makes, and sizes, I found the PSE Venom to be the most comfortable for me to shoot. Remember that I am brand new at bow hunting, and until this experience, I had never drawn a compound bow before in my life. Perhaps it was just beginners luck, or maybe it was the expert encouragement and help I was receiving from the sales staff, but what ever it was by the time I was ready to take out my check book, I was consistently shooting a 5 inch group at the 20 yd. Indoor range. I know it was not all luck; the fact that I was shooting an extremely well made and well-balanced bow was the most important factor. The PSE just feels good to shoot. There is very little vibration, even without a stabilizer when you release, that you know you have a quality piece of equipment in your hand.

What I don't like about the PSE PSE Venom: Having owned the PSE Venom for a relatively short time, I have not as yet found anything that I do not like about the bow. Perhaps after this fall bow season, and if I should miss a nice buck, and I can find some way to blame the bow, well…I may have to revisit this statement, but right now, it’s all thumbs up for me.

Bows PSE Venom quality: I was favorably impressed with the obvious quality construction of the bow. The solid limb construction, would lead you to think that the bow would be extremely heavy, as compared to some of the split limb bows on the market, but with a weight of just under 4 lbs. I find it to be a very easily handled bow. The beautiful walnut grip also gives you the sense of a quality piece of equipment, as well as lending its own esthetic value.

PSE Venom summary: All in all I feel supremely comfortable with the prospect of heading into the north woods this fall with the PSE Venom in my hands. It is a pleasure to look at with it’s great looking camouflage finish, and it is even more pleasant to shoot. Should there not be venison on my game pole this fall, I don’t believe it could be blamed on the Venom, I’m afraid I would have to take the rap on that one.
