Purchase: I purchased it ten years back out of the paper. I actually bought it off a Lawyer which should have told me something was wrong. I forget what I paid now, it was a pretty decent deal at the time. He kept the scope and mounts, so basically all I got was the rifle.
Things I like about the Remington 700 BDL Mountain Rifle: It has what Remington called at the time the Rhinite stock. Another words plastic, which I like. I could never get over carrying a piece of furniture in the woods like a lot of guys do. The gun shoots well and has a real good feel to it. I like a slightly shorter,lighter rifle.
What I don't like about the Remington 700 BDL Mountain Rifle: I've had four mis-fires with the gun three of which were at deer. It's been to three different gun smiths who have replaced various parts, but all admitted they couldn't find out what's wrong. One even said that perhaps it had wd-40 sprayed in there and that may have jelled it up since all of the mis-fires happened in very cold weather. As much as I like the gun I'm going to get rid of her since I just don't trust her. A mistake I made was not matching her up with the right scope, I put a new Redfield on, but the mounts were kind of generic and that finds me leaning in to get a good sight picture. I learned my lesson and in the future will have a professional gun smith mount/measure my new scopes.
700 BDL Mountain Rifle quality: The bolt has a great feel to it and the stock lives up to all sorts of abuse. The only problem I've had is the mis-firing which is a big problem for a gun. I can't blame the scope on the gun, that was my fault.
700 BDL Mountain Rifle summary: Like I said, I really like the gun and when she fires she's on. Everyone tells me a 700 BDL mis-firing is unheard of. I don't know what to tell them, just that mine does on occasion and I shouldn't trust her for another season. Most people I talk to rave about the Remington 700 series and tell me it's a great gun.
