Purchase: Archery Equipment Wal-Mart purchase, $30+/- I was in search of a good, reliable arrow holder.
Things I like about the Carolina Archery Products Whisker Biscuit Archery Equipment: Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity...not to mention it works bloody well too! I was initially interested in this product as an arrow holder, but once I put in on my bow, I found that it was one very good arrow rest too. I also like that there are no moving parts. And, it would seem, tuning is easier as well. Moreover, as initially hoped, it is an unsurpassed arrow holder. It should be noted that the Biscuit will in quick time let you know if your bow is not properly tuned. At first I was experiencing some noticeable wear on feather fletch and plastic vanes. I focused in on my bow's tune and realized it simply was not. Since tuning the bow properly, I have not suffered any feather or vane wear. None. Nada. Additionally, so far in my experience, changing the Biscuit itself (not the holder) does not require retuning. Since the Biscuit sits in a holder secured by to allen screws, a new biscuit is in the same position the old was. Many have noted a loss in arrow speed. I would think that to be true. However, in my case that is not an issue with me. A few feet a second here or there is no big deal, at least it is not as big a deal to me as the arrow actually getting to the target. The Biscuit holds my arrow no matter how I twist the bow, and the draw is quiet.
What I don't like about the Carolina Archery Products Whisker Biscuit: Hmmmmm....ahhhhhh....well, it looks a little funny. Not cool or jazzy.
Archery Equipment Whisker Biscuit quality: Construction is simple and forthright. Nothing's come loose or broken yet. If changing a biscuit is required, it is simple and easy.
Whisker Biscuit summary: The Whisker Biscuit is a fine product. I have, however, read that in cold, wet weather the whiskers tend to freeze together. I live and hunt in New Hampshire and have as yet to experience that. Although, I will keep an eye on such from now on. The Biscuit comes completely closed or in a QS (Quick Shot - a notch in the biscuit to drop the arrow into) configuration. When I was purchasing the Biscuit, the QS version was more expensive; however, the closed version is really a hindrance regards nocking an arrow. Sooooooo....I just took my less expensive close biscuit version introduced it to a pair of heavy diagonal cutters and now I too have a QS biscuit! It works just fine, thank you! Also, since speed loss is a concern to some with using the Biscuit, I was advised by an old and wise retailer to trim away some of the whiskers from around the entire circumference of the Biscuit...on both sides. The theory being of course less whiskers, less drag. I did as advised. Maybe it affected arrow speed, maybe it didn't. I don't know. I've never graphed my arrow's speed. Nonetheless, the Biscuit still performs wonderfully. And, I am still one happy Whisker Biscuit user.
