ArcticShield® Serves Hunting Industry New Scent-Control Technology on a ‘Silver’ Platter

Hunting Gear - BROKEN ARROW, Okla.– ArcticShield®, known worldwide for their innovation of extreme cold-weather clothing, has pulled the curtain on a new line of scent-control hunting apparel called X-Scent™. X-Scent™ apparel utilizes a technology called X-STATIC®, which is a silver fiber with 0.999-pure silver (Ag) permanently, irreversibly bound to its surface. This precious-metal lined fabric doesn’t trap or absorb odors; it hinders the process of odor production and eliminates it at its source.
Before hunting most hunters avoid external odors from contaminating their clothes. The greatest concern is their own body odor that collects and emits away from them while hunting. Human body odor originates from bacteria living on skin surfaces. As these bacteria cells live out their lives, they expel waste in the form of an odorous gas. It is this odor that becomes stronger over time from a build-up of bacteria due to reproduction. Armpits and feet are common, ideal breeding grounds for odor-emitting bacteria.
It is on this micro-size level where the silver fibers within X Scent™ apparel work their odor-control magic.
Silver ions (Ag+) are a superb antimicrobial, meaning they’re highly toxic to these odor-emitting bacteria cells. Ions passed from the silver fibers infiltrate bacteria cells and bond with DNA chains, which literally shuts down the cells’ respiratory system and the ability to reproduce.
ArcticShield®’s Vice President, Rus Huffstutler, likes to describe this advanced technology in simple terms:

Silver ions, as an antimicrobial, have been tested and researched for years by the medical industry, major accredited universities and the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA recognizes silver as one of the best antimicrobials while remaining harmless to humans.
Even the U.S. Military has proven the bacteria-control effectiveness of silver fiber technology. To protect their feet from a wide variety of medical problems caused by microbes, troops wear X-STATIC® fabric socks while in the field for days on end.
And that was enough proof for ArcticShield® President J.T. Griffin to move forward with developing hunting garments from this technology.
“ArcticShield apparel was founded on the principle of scientific proof that started with our extreme cold-weather clothing line, which utilizes a technology called RE-tain,” Griffin said. “Activated-carbon garments are very popular among hunters, and activated carbon itself is proven to be a good filter for water and air. But, there’s no real scientific proof that these types of hunting garments actually work in the field when bought new or over a period of time.
“Our X-Scent technology works. It’s already been proven scientifically, and with hunters in the field.”
The technology used in X Scent™ apparel is nothing like activated-carbon garments. As with activated-carbon clothing, silver-fiber fabric can't fill up or get plugged with odor molecules. X Scent™ apparel never requires any kind of reactivation or regeneration, and is not limited to the number of times it can be washed.
In addition to controlling odor-causing microbes, Silver Fiber Technology™ is thermodynamic, meaning it will keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter by conducting body heat away from and around your body, making it highly breathable.
