Woodland, WA USA. Lamiglas, Inc. has completed extensive research and development on its new fly rod offerings for the 2004 season. Featured are forest green blanks and wraps, quality cork and hardware and Lifetime Limited Warranties. Travel tube included.

Appalachian Travel Series The new Appalachian Travel Series were late comers to the party last year and didn't make the catalogs but were strong sellers none the less. Three new models are added for 2004, a 6' 3 wt., 8' 6 wt. and 8' 6" 5 wt. will round out this "shorter" length series of rods. All models are 3 pc. for ease in travel. Travel tube included

Ti2000 Lamiglas' premium line of Ti2000 Fly rods will get upgraded REC titanium finished reel seats and cosmetically enhanced and functionally superior fighting butts. Travel tube included.

Esprit and Esprit Travel These models now feature single foot and traditional RECoil snap back snakes instead of the Fuji Concept Alconite (ceramic) sold last season. New improved REC reel seats and fighting butts will be found on the appropriate models. Travel tube included.

Grande Bluewater The 2004 Grande Bluewater rods feature improved casting actions and a new cosmetic facelift, such as high gloss black spigot ferruled blanks, Ice Blue under wraps and black over wraps, quality cork and machined grade 3 anodized reel seats (with gimbal on 15 wt.) These are the only real game in town for a true big game fly rod. Travel tube included.

Spey Two new 6 pc. travel Spey Rods with faster actions are available for 2004, they feature high gloss metallic burgundy finishes, custom wood barreled reel seats, beautiful wraps and quality hardware throughout. At around $500 these are great modern styled high performance oriented Spey rods. A 12'9" for 8/ 9 wt. lines and a 14' for 10/11 wt. lines will cover most fishing situations. Travel tube included.

Brush Creek Travel Now only available in a three pc. Design, Brush Creek Travel rods have hot new black fiberglass/graphite composite blanks, forest green wraps with metallic green inlays. These rods will now move to faster actions due to the small amount of graphite added to the blanks. Travel tube included.

G1000 Two and four pc. G1000 models now feature hand polished natural graphite shafts and new wood barreled reel seats on 4 through 6 wt. rods while 7 through 10 wt. models have machined grade 2 anodized reel seats. Berkley

Hook Sharpener

Fishing Misc Equip

I need a new back pack before archery sets in so here goes nothing. The only new piece of equipment I've bought lately is a hook sharpener. My old one dissappeared during my divorce which is a lot of the reason I haven't bought anything lately. It was all worth it, but that's another story.

With the exception of a little cleo or two I throw Rooster Tails almost exclusively. After a few trips out from being in the water they lose some of their bite and that's where the little Berkely comes in. It does a good job of brining the hook back to life, nothing will make it new again, but at least it brings the point back to average.

The sharpener is fragile and sometimes you acutally wonder if the hook is getting the best of the sharpener. It's also a little difficult getting down on a three prong hook.

I guess you have to ask yourself how well they can make such an item. What I mean to say is you cant walk up with a bench grinder. I just always fret about small plastic objects.

It does a decent job, if I had more money I would probably buy a top of the line model, but that seems to be gone anymore. My advice to the youngsters out there is don't get married. She can't take my fishing away from me.

Mitchell

300 X

Fishing Reels

This was my best e-bay deal ever. Still in the box for $20.00. I'm not sure why someone would sell this so cheap and didn't want to ask either. A local bait shop has them for sale close to seventy.

Smooth, Smooth, Smooth. This is one well designed reel. It's not like cranking an old engine, it's more like a good golf swing where everything falls into place. The reel gives excellent feed back. You know they sometimes pull straight out where your rod won't pick the hit up as much as a side to side hit. With this reel you know what's happening on the other end of the line.

It's too bad it didn't come with a rod attached.

This is my first Mitchell and now I know why old timers talk them up so much. Very precise feel and well made. Everything locks in to place like it's meant to be that part of the puzzle.

I got this sweetheart for a steal, oopps I better not say that to loud maybe it was. Okay, I'll shut up about my great bargain. All reels are pretty well made these days. This one just has a feel I like. You'd better check your closet to make sure your old lady didn't sell yours for on e-bay.

Tica Fly Rods

Two Piece

Fishing Rods

This fly rodding thing is new to me and for the most part I'm trying to teach myself with the help of a couple of books. I liked the feel of the rod in a local tackle store and then bought it cheaper at the Sports Authority. It was right around $80 or in that neighborhood.

It's ultra light which is good for the type of fishing I do. Most of my fishing is for small native trout who although small in stature put up a great fight with this rod. Remember it's not the size of the fish in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the fish. These natives may not be big in catching them half the challenge is to get them to bite. The over seven feet of the Tica gives me more than enough space to sneak up on them without scaring them into a hunger strike.

There's a little give in the reel seat which may in part be the reels fault. I just like something solid with no give in it.

It's fairly well made. The two pieces fit together nicely unlike some rods I had as a kid. The rod gives good feedback as it should being Ultra weight and all.

It's not the best rod out there, for me for the moment it is. If I decide to continue fly fishing I will probably go out and buy a much nicer one. For the moment I'm enjoying sneaking up on natives in streams not much wider than my bathtub.Another cool part is I can tie flys all winter long and dream about fishing.

Shakespeare Fishing Rod

Intrepid IM-7 Graphite

Fishing Rods

I laid down $29.99 for the rod and then another $65 for a nice Shimano reel to go with it. That was just as everything was going on sale about this time last year as Fall starts to set in.

I bought the 5 foot 6 inch light action. I didn't want to go with the ultra-light for the fact that every now and then I like to do some Carp fishing on a stream and needed the little extra umppphhh. I like the twist lock reel system as I often change strategies in mid stream, pardon the pun and switch lines. The Shimano reel came with an extra spool which made doing this simple especially with the twist lock real system.

The action of the rod may still be a little light for my taste. A question I will pose for all to read this is what's to say an ultra light in New York is an ultra light in Florida. NY has a lot of small streams with small fish whereas Florida has a lot of bassing lakes. Just something to think about.

It's okay I think the guides may come loose eventually, then again who knows.

It's middle of the road all the way. Certainly not the best and it's not the worst either. Doing a review is tougher than I thought.

Gerber

Auto Recoil Multi-Tool Knife

Other

This was a gift from My Girlfriend's Brother Marc for Christmas. He didn't know what to buy me, but knew I loved the outdoors so he thought this would be a good gift. He's a lot like me and shops at the very last second.

This is something I would never buy myself, but always wanted. I see them at differnt places on the net for around $60.00. What an awesome tool, everything is right there. I only get a few days to hunt a year and certainly can't waste anytime with not having a tool on me, or in the car. This jewel does it all. From opening the occasional after hunt beer to tightening up my gun in the field. I travel 2 hours from the house to hunt and rarely if ever have tools with me. This is the solution.

It won't handle everything that comes along and some jobs are meant for real honest to goodness tools.

It appears to me Gerber makes a great product capable of withstanding a lot of punishment. I also like the fact it's stainless steel which will stand up to the occasional harsh conditions of a hunting or fishing trip.

I'm very pleased with my gift. It's something that will help me keep my sanity when things go wrong in the field, or boat. Providing you don't lose it you'll have it for year to come.
