Orvis Superfine Rods Revamped for 2004

Orvis Superfine fly rods are getting a face-lift for 2004. Rather than only focusing on the latest technology this year, Orvis is revamping its Superfine line of classic-action fly rods, adding strength, a nicer aesthetic, and one new model.
The direction fly-rod manufacturing has taken in the last few years is toward faster-action, higher-modulus graphite fly rods. However, the reality is that there is still a place for traditional-action rods with delicate presentation and light tippet-protection flex. These classic rods survive because anglers still like the feeling of fishing with them.
In the words of Tom Rosenbauer, Director of Orvis Rod & Tackle Marketing, “Superfine rods, with their Full-Flex action, slow down and smooth the whole process. Ask any hunter how important good, effective camouflage is to the success of any hunt and the reply will be unanimous. Camouflage is absolutely essential! The only problem was, little thought had ever been given to one of the most important aspects of effective camouflage.
The eyes, may indeed be ‘The windows to the soul’, but for the hunter they present three other, major problems.
1. Man is a predator and like all predators our eyes are positioned in the front of the head as opposed to the side of the head placement of prey animals. This placement allows us to focus and gauge depth but also makes us an easily recognizable threat.
2. Man is the only animal, besides the moose, in the woods with whites in our eyes. Again, this is easily detected, making man an easily recognizable threat to prey game.
3. Although a hunter is capable of remaining still, the eyes are constantly moving. In fact, we move our eyes more than any other part of our body.

My Wife gave them to me for my birthday just a little while back. I looked on their website and I'll take a guess and say she paid $150 here or there.
I like these boots! They feel like my old pair of Rockies that are now in semi-retirement summoned only for shoveling stalls. These could easily go from Elk hunting to coon hunting that night. Their also very supportive for walking over rough terrain and the like.
With me getting older by the end of the day my legs are dragging especially if I'm trying to keep up with one of my Step-sons. What I'm trying to say is there not as light as I'd like them to be. Their kind of like an old enduro bike half on road half off.
You can bet their well made. You won't have to take or send these back.
Nice pair of boots, just a little heavy for my taste and age.

I thought the guys were joking when they showed me this oversize wrist watch in oor local hardware store. They said they might pitch in to get me one for my birthday, well here I am with my new Wrist Sonar, although I assure you I don't have it on now.
I gave it a good try and I don't.
Why would someone use something so small when for a little bit more money you could buy a full size unit that will work a lot better. I'm supposed to attach this thing to my line?? I'd much rater put a buzz bait on the end of my line and try to catch something than a sonar, although I do think I had something hit on it once. Read on and I'll tell you the outcome.
The watch makes a real nice conversation piece so I think I'll wear it out the next time I go to a cock tail party. It'll be like my Dick Tracey watch, maybe I'll beam somebody up.
Well a long story short there are this thing we all face called snags and you guessed it that's where the other part of my unit is to this day. Does anyone want to buy half a hummingbird sonar unit?

I piecked it up for $99.99 at Dicks. I shopped for a while and just couldn't pass up the price.
This is quite a step up from my first generation tube that although patched held up for years. I guess the best thing is the fly patch right there where it's needed so I don't have to fumble with my vest.
So far so good no complaints yet.
It's really well made and even has a inflatable back rest for added support. This is like a Cadillac compared to the one I bought through Cabella's years back.
Even I knew these things had come as far as they had I would have bought a new one years ago.

It was a great conversation piece at the club both before and after I got it. Okay I had a few beers when I brought it up and now find myself with the nick name of uncle joe.
I think the sweet smell is apple juice and pee dried on sawdust. Wow, was that a waste of my money, in my last few scouting trips I must have smelled like a French ****Editor note! Keep it clean!

This was my best e-bay deal ever. Still in the box for $20.00. I'm not sure why someone would sell this so cheap and didn't want to ask either. A local bait shop has them for sale close to seventy.
Smooth, Smooth, Smooth. This is one well designed reel. It's not like cranking an old engine, it's more like a good golf swing where everything falls into place. The reel gives excellent feed back. You know they sometimes pull straight out where your rod won't pick the hit up as much as a side to side hit. With this reel you know what's happening on the other end of the line.
It's too bad it didn't come with a rod attached.
This is my first Mitchell and now I know why old timers talk them up so much. Very precise feel and well made. Everything locks in to place like it's meant to be that part of the puzzle.
I got this sweetheart for a steal, oopps I better not say that to loud maybe it was. Okay, I'll shut up about my great bargain. All reels are pretty well made these days. This one just has a feel I like. You'd better check your closet to make sure your old lady didn't sell yours for on e-bay.
