Mossberg Innovations Ported Barrels

Press Release

PORTED BARRELS are included as standard equipment on many Mossberg® pump shotgun models. Barrel porting is a method of reducing felt recoil by allowing a controlled portion of the generated gasses to escape slightly before the muzzle, and in opposing direction to muzzle jump caused by exiting payload and gas discharge.

Once reserved for the more expensive and competition grade shotguns, Mossberg® innovations continue to favor the shooter who simply enjoys the shooting sports. True to its over 80 year tradition of offering "More gun for the money", Mossberg® is the first shotgun manufacturer to include a large selection of ported production barrels for their customers.

500® Pump Action Shotguns: All ventilated rib, 12 gauge field barrels and all 12 and 20 gauge slugster® barrels.

835® Ulti-Mag® Pump Action Shotguns: All barrels.

Four staggered parallel rows of four gas ports are located at the ten, eleven, one and two o'clock positions of the barrel below the top centerline. The sixteen ports direct a controlled amount of gas upwards neutralizing a portion of normal muzzle jump and reducing the felt recoil. The porting advantage also enables the shooter to more quickly get into position for a second target.

BuckShot Tree Stands-CenterShot

Release

A quantum leap that is right on target, the CenterShot is an all-weld aluminum sit down / standup cable climbing treestand. The CenterShot features Swiftloc technology.

Swiftloc technology includes the Swiftloc terminal and Swiftloc keyed channel receiving bar. Also, unique to the CenterShot, are the Eccentric Guides and rigid cable technology or (RCT). In combination with Swiftloc the eccentric guides and RCT allow for lightning fast setup and a generous capacity for adjustments on trees 8-20 inches in diameter.

The Centershot's large 20*29" platform is decked out with 6 non-skid cross members, and closes the gap because each cross member is 2" wide.

The CenterShot grips the tree using the tandem blade stabilizer system or (TBS system). This system engages the tree with tandem blades, reaching further around the tree than any other climber in the industry.

A fantastic bow stand, the CenterShot is easy to backpack and simple to climb. It is available with a moveable seat (recommended) or a sling seat and it can be outfitted with a footrest, a shooting rest or bow holder.

Hunters needing the versatility of a combo stand look no further. The CenterShot transforms into a comfortable gun stand by adding the adjustable safety bar. The adjustable safety bar can be used as a backrest when facing the tree or as a rifle rest when hunting back to the tree.

STEINER OFFERS PORTABLE POWER FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL

Press Release

8x30 Police Binocular is Compact and Lightweight, A Useful Tool for Surveillance

MOORESTOWN, N.J. November 1, 2002 – Concealable and compact, yet powerful and bright enough to track movement in a poorly lit alley, Steiner’s new 8x30 Police binocular is the ultimate surveillance tool for law enforcement.

After a very successful introduction of Steiner’s Police model line-up, available exclusively to law enforcement agencies and distributors, law enforcement officials and police officers started to ask for a compact version of the Police binocular, the new 8x30 model was born shortly thereafter and will be available in early ’03.

The 8x30 Police offers pinpoint precision and unmatched brightness in a package that weighs only 18 ounces. With multi-coated optics on all air-to-glass surfaces and BAK 4 prisms, in a waterproof, rubber-armored shell, the 8x30 Police ensures sharp, clear views in all conditions.

The binocular features Steiner’s Sports auto-focus system, keeping subjects in clear focus from 20 feet to 120 yards with excellent depth of field. And the memory eye-pieces need no adjustment once set for the user’s eye.

This Porro prism binocular’s ergonomic, contoured shape is designed for comfort, and its light weight prevents arm fatigue that occurs when using binoculars for long periods. Steiner’s new 8x30 Police is waterproof, fogproof and shockproof to repel outdoor elements and resist rough handling.

Similar in design to Steiner’s 7x50 and 10x50 Police, the new 8x30 Police is rugged and built to last. The black rubber armoring features bold “POLICE” lettering, giving it an official look that sets it apart from Steiner’s military and civilian models.

The 8x30 Police binocular is protected by a 10-year warranty, and has a suggested retail price of $209.

Rocket Aerohead-An Unprecedented Combination of Accuracy

Release

Flight - Hit where you aim! Rocket Aeroheads are aerodynamically designed for total field point accuracy with a minimum amount of exposed blade surface in flight. They will fly the same as equal weight field points with the same minimal fletch size and offset or helical used with your field points, eliminating the need to change from your practice set-up.

You'll have a lot more confidence in the field using the same set-up that you've practiced with, especially when you know your arrows are tipped with the most deadly effective hunting head on the market today. The lighter weights of Rocket Aeroheads transmit less inertial shock to the shaft during acceleration, allowing for the use of light shafts with light spine for increased speed and accuracy with flatter trajectory. Optimum flight is achieved with less front-end spinning mass, a lower rate of rotational, and less rear-end drag relative to conventional winged broadheads.

Blade Opening - On impact, the blades of Rocket Aeroheads open fully 100% of the time. Simple fail-free lever action forces the blades open as the flat leading edges of the blade tips strike fur and feathers. The blade tips are unsharpened for quick external deployment of the blades.

With external blade deployment there is no loss of energy from a spreading of the target material by the back of the blades, which can significantly reduce the penetration of heads which have blades that deploy internally. Fur, feathers, and flesh flexibly catch the blade tips. As the blades begin opening only a slight amount of force is directed back along the shaft, limiting the energy used for blade opening to the small amount needed to expand the O-ring. The O-rings simply provide a more consistent tension on the blades than any other system on the market. All Rocket Aeroheads are designed to open externally for a full width entry wound and optimum penetration. The faster Rocket Aeroheads are shot, the quicker and more externally the blades open.

The blades are made in different styles and lengths which provide varying amounts of blade-opening leverage on impact. This ensures a full width entry wound at the speed your shooting along with a minimum of exposed blade surface in flight. Penetration - Rocket Aeroheads will out-penetrate conventional vented broadheads of considerably smaller size. In fact, our new Stealth series Aeroheads penetrate up to twice as far on foam and plywood combinations as conventional vented heads of similar cutting dimension.

On game, Rocket Arrowheads snake uncannily along the path of least resistance. The patented offset blades cause Rocket Aeroheads to twistingly penetrate game to deliver a devastating spiral wound channel. They will readily shatter the largest bone, but not if there is an easier way around. They tend to twist and glance off of bone, conserving energy to cut more vital tissue. Rocket Aeroheads do not take the path of least resistance when it comes to impact at an acute angle. Because the blades form an angle with the ferrule, when a single blade catches, it leverages the chisel point into the target. The blade tips are pointed rather than rounded.

to pull them into the target with an angled hit. This feature has often turned an otherwise glancing missed shot into a successful hunt. Typically, a slash wound leads up to the point of entry. Tight angle shots should be avoided, however, with the longer-bladed Aeroheads as the arrow may turn on impact reducing penetration.

Maximum Damage - The small on-center blades of conventional broadheads often leave a small surgical cut which can easily close up. The spiral wound channel left by Rocket Aeroheads is anything but surgical. The offset blades of Rocket Aeroheads are set back from the chisel tip. As a result bone is shattered and flesh is stretched before the blades strike. Blood vessels, arteries, and flesh under tension spring apart when cut for maximum hemorrhaging. Together with the extra wide cutting diameters of Rocket Aeroheads you'll have a trail which leads to recovered game.

Strength - Rocket Aeroheads have all the stay together strength of the toughest conventional broadheads. They are continuously put through some grueling tests and they will stay together through the toughest materials. The blades are secured with screws. A factory replacement or refund will be given for any Aerohead that breaks a folding blade on game. The blades may occasionally bend when impacting large bone, but they continue to cut and they will not break. Blades which bend slightly sideways do so because they are forcing the ferrule to turn. It is a more effective use of arrow energy for a blade to bend now and then on large bone in order to conserve energy to cut more vital tissue and promote rapid hemorrhaging. The worst case scenario is that the cutting diameter and blade angle are reduced to that of a conventional broadhead, a rare event in the field even when penetrating shoulder bone.

Bausch & Lomb

Custom 10x40 Binocular

Optics

Paid about $160 on-line at Cabela's. I needed a pair of binoculars for duck hunting and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg.

Adjustments are really sweet. It's hard for me, apparently because of how close my eyes are, to get a pair of binoculars that really works for me. This model is very comfortable and the optics are just as clear as day.

I guess I would have preferred an armored casing and maybe camo pattern, but the black is not really that shiny and probably won't cause me a problem when I'm sitting in my blind.

Obviously, bausch & lomb are quality optics and these binoculars are proof of that.

I think they were a bit expensive to tell you the truth, but I trust the brand and they've been around forever. I've never heard anything bad about them and I wanted to get a pair that would last for a while.

Browning Bow

Tornado Bow

Archery Equipment

I picked it up on line at the Outdoor Super store. I paid about 330 for it close to six weeks ago.

As a kid I hunted archery for years. I got away from it when I discovered women and haven't been back to it since. My son is now 11 and I decided for his sake to take the sport back up again. The plan is to give this to him in a couple of years when he's ready for it. What I like is this bow is very adjustable and will grow with him as his arms and strength grows. For now he is just using a youth bow bought at wal-mart.

I liked it and must say bows have come a long way since I was shooting my recurve. I would probably swear by this bow if it weren't for my friend allowing me to shoot his top of the line PSE. Now that bow is like driving a Mercedes and switching back to the Gran Prix isn't easy. It's also taller than some of the bows on the market. It may only be a few inches, but that can make a difference when in the field.

Well made, everything acts in unison. This bow will be around a long time.

This is a nice bow my son can grow into and when he does I'll be buying myself the PSE. There's nothing wrong with the bow it's just that once you try a true upper shelf bow it's tough to turn back.

Hawk Climbing Tree Stand

Tree Stands

It came yesterday from Wal-Mart.com. I don't recall exactly what it cost since I bought a new safety harness and a few lures, Somewhere close to $99.00.

I had a real old loggy without a seat on it. I purchased a strap on seat, but I'm tall and it didn't give me the best support especially when bundled up for one of the colder days of the year. For this one the seat is part of the unit and pretty comfortable compared to others I've tried. The straps are generous in size as well compared to my old loggy whose straps were nothing more than carrying handles.

It's not completly camo'd. The base is a gray that will probably blend in well enough, but I would rather not take any chances. It's to late to paint it and not have to worry about scent so I will probably buy a couple of rolls of camo tape and then spray it down with scent shield real well in addition to leaving it under the shed.

For $100 I didn't expect miracles, but it's pretty solid. I go a little over the weight limit of 300 with a full pack of gear, gun and knapsack so I'm alway think about that in the back of my mind. I also wish it were a little quieter when climbing, but I'm sure after a little use it will work out.

For $100 some dollars I think I did well. I don't have to worry a lot about losing it like I would with a high end stand and it is very comfortable, especially with the padded armrest in the warmer months. I'll give it a three out of five.

Tournament Baitcasting Reel

Fishing Reels

I'm very excited about your new site and thanks for putting it out there for all of us. Up until now there hasn't been a Consumer Reports type site for us to review Fishing Gear. I bought this reel at my local tackle shop here in Syracuse. I bought quite a bit that day, so I'm not positive how much it was. I'd guess around $80 some dollars.

I'm really getting the Bass Fishing bug so I think I like best about it is how quickly one can cast compared to an open face under rod design. I realy like the feel of it's parts when working the bait. Very smooth and well made.

No problems with this so far.

Time tells all, but I think it's pretty well made. I haven't been fishing long enough to know what's good or bad so I'll just say it's the middle of the road.

I love my new fishing addiction and my Garcia reel was a real good choice for me right now. I'm having enough problems getting my purchases past my wife. I'm sure you know the price of a tackle box full of bait and how much that costs so to make my point the price is right.

Etrex GPS

GPS

The Etrex was a gift from my crew on the last day of my employment at the distribution center I worked at previously. It all stems back to an incident last year when I managed to get myself lost while hunting last year and missed an employee function. Hopefully now that I've changed jobs I won't hear a lot about that anymore.I see them at several sporting goods stores in the Ohio area for just over $100.00

I need to warn you this is my first GPS so everything it does is new and amazing to me. The first thing I noticed was the size of this thing, or lack of size. This thing is small in size. For some reason I had an idea in the back of my mind that a GPS would be large and too bulky to take into the woods, especially with my still hunting. I was also very impressed with it being completly waterproof. I accidentally tested this while leaning over to net a small native trout and out came the GPS. I thought for sure it was done for, but it didn't miss a beat even after being in the water for a couple while I located it. I'm also impressed with the back up feature which reverses your course when it's time to head back. I can usually find my way there, but getting back sometimes proposes a problem, especially if you hunt until dark Great feature.

This is like your first car, what's not to like about it. Someday I'll upgrade and let you know what I don't miss from the old one.

Excellent, from what I said earlier about the stream accident. I'm also impressed with the buttons on the side, and get this their not hard to use if with gloves on. I haven't dropped it on a hard surface yet, but I'm sure that is coming and have very little doubt it will come through okay.

Definitely don't deprive yourself another minute and get one. From finding my tree stand in the dark to just finding my way in a new area this is the best. This is a great new site, I'll be back often with reviews of my gear.
